Save me a place in heaven's newsroom

Suicide is a way to tell God 'You can't fire me, I quit' this is a status that did the rounds on my facebook page recently and little did i knew one of my fellow colleague and friend was contemplating it.

It came as a shock to me and many people being a huge blow to the media industry to learn of Bongani Nyezi's death. This took place after criminals burglar his apartment and made way with his most precious tools which earned him a decent living. Short man with long dreadlocks was his appearance associated with his big camera are some of the memories that will remain on masses minds.

I first met Baby Jake (as Bongani was affectionately known) during high school era and as always had a camera on stand-by to click, click and click. I must say he was one of the few lens-man who was able to get an outstanding and glittering photo out of any situation and I guess that's why I found a smile on my face every time he pointed the lens at me irrespective of my mood.

At one point I bumped on him trying to take a landscape picture which he struggled due to weather and traffic on the said day but finally did as he was a good capturer and that was his talent which you wouldn't take away from as he was passionate about.

Never again will I read his articles, meet him at media gigs, call for a picture from his archives or have a casual chat whatsoever.

Rest in peace my friend and save me a place in heavens newsroom where we'll be able to take pictures of angels and write articles about Jesus, Moses, Abram and the rest and never have to worry about the low-lifers of this planet who prey on hard working musos to satisfy their urge of stealing.
